For those of you who have found this website looking for bread recipes, we have provided the following for your enjoyment.

MOM'S QUICK WHOLE WHEAT BREAD

1 large baking stone - Put in oven on middle rack and heat oven to 350 degrees.  When oven is hot enough remove stone to cool and close oven door to conserve the heat.

2 cps. hot water - heat in microwave or on stove until very hot but not boiling.

In large bowl mix well: 3 cps. whole wheat flour
(All ingredients at       2 T. (or pkgs) of dry yeast
 room temperatures)   1 T. salt

Measure and set aside: 1/4 cp. oil
                                1/4 cp. honey

Add to flour mixture and mix well: the above 2 cps. of hot water.

Add oil and honey to the above mixture, mix well.

Stir in 2 cps. unbleached white flour and mix well.  Continue adding additional white flour and mixing until it is not sticky and you can handle it.  Put onto a floured surface and knead, adding flour as necessary, until very spongy or rubbery.  To make loaves divide into 2 equal pieces. Each piece put on a floured surface and roll into a rectangle with a rolling pin (about 15" x 12").  Pinch the seam together and fold under the ends.  Place on the warm baking stone.  If you don't have a baking stone, heat loaf pans in the same way (see below).

If you would like to make pretty braided loaves just roll out as above and cut lengthwise with a sharp knife into four strips then braid the strips as you would hair, pinch ends to secure.

For rolls just pinch off pieces the desired size and smooth or fold and place on cookie sheet.

Before putting into the oven to rise brush the top of the bread with oil.  Return to middle shelf of warm (not hot) oven and shut the door.  Let rise for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.  Remove from oven and reheat oven to 350 degrees (about 5 minutes) then replace bread on middle shelf and bake for 25-30 minutes or until deep golden brown.  Remove from oven and place on cooling racks.  EAT AND ENJOY!
