| Now the Bereans were of more noble
character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with
great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what
Paul said was true. Acts 17:11 NIV |
| The Concern about Reliable and True Teaching |
All human teaching and all human teachers are inherently "questionable", since they are fallible and therefore are not above being questioned, with the exception of Jesus Christ Himself and His appointed apostles in the first-century Christian church. In the general sense of human fallibility, our teaching is clearly just as questionable as anyone else's. However, what we mean by "Questionable" in this context is so-called Bible teaching that can be fairly, objectively, and reasonably shown to be in error on significant points of Biblical doctrine. Certain teaching can be demonstrated in some measure to be significantly questionable on the issue of trustworthy handling of Biblical texts or on its general representation of the authority, inerrancy, relevance, and/or completeness of the scriptures. Such works are perhaps questionable to the extent that one might eventually decide to wholly mistrust them and even their authors (i.e. throw out the whole corrupted loaf). We will leave that judgment and decision up to you and to God.
| Our Intent |
It is certainly not our intent to target specific teachers, churches, or Christian denominations with criticism. However, it is an unavoidable fact that when teachings are questioned and critiqued in the Biblically-mandated manner, the teachers are also automatically brought under the light of scrutiny. We are not in the business of branding people as "heretics" or trying to damage their ministry. But it is our Scriptural responsibility, as it is all Christians' task, to examine their teachings to see if they are true. If these teachings are found to be not true on essential doctrinal issues, we have the obligation to bring that to light. The Apostle Paul even called this effort "noble" (Acts 17:11 -- see inset). God has already made the judgments regarding truth through the infallible message of His Word, the Bible. We therefore operate only under the authority of His Word in our ongoing research and writing efforts. We trust that the Holy Spirit, through His inspired Word, will make the final, objective judgments.
| Why Certain Teachings are Especially Questionable |
We believe the teachings featured here deserve your careful scrutiny and a healthy and informed degree of ongoing skepticism. They deserve this skepticism either because they have significantly mishandled the Biblical texts to support their own message and/or they even represent new religious doctrines not found in the Scriptures. We present this information so you can be more informed and follow up with your own thinking, discussions, and research. On the basis of your knowledge of related authors or their works, the information presented here and elsewhere, and especially from your own knowledge of the Bible as it pertains to these issues, you should carefully consider whether it is prudent to regard them as reputable and trustworthy ("... Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees." - Matthew 16:6b).

| "Preachers today betray their calling when they work an
audience like a late night comedian, rather than summon the people
of God to heed the Word of God, having lost their confidence in
God's appointed means. We have converted the church to a
commodity that solicits the patronage of customers, offering
therapeutic sanctuaries of relaxation and relevance. The
churches are shed of whatever seems unappealing to the greatest
number of potential believers, including their history,
denominational distinctiveness, and especially their duty to
exercise discipline." John Muether |
